Frequently Asked Questions

We all need support at some stage in our lives, however knowing who and where to go to get the best support can be a challenging and scary task. We’re here to help you understand the power behind coaching and how finding the right coach for you can empower you to achieve your goals.

Our FAQ section will guide you through what coaching is, how it can help and what you can expect from working with your coach.

What is Coaching?
Coaching is the practice of helping and guiding an individual to achieve their personal or professional goals. Formal Coaching is conducted by a professional coach that has been trained to help individuals unlock their potential by helping them to understand their values, things that may be holding back their own progress or growth and by helping them overcome their challenges in a structured manner.
What happens during a coaching session?
During your coaching session the coach will ask a variety of questions to understand your goal, where you are mentally right now and to get to know you. The aim is to understand where the client sees themself now, what they’d like to achieve and the challenges they face. Your coach will help you using various tools, techniques and action plans to help you to unlock your potential and empower you to achieve your goals.
Are there different types of coaching?
There are many different types of coaching and more specific areas are being developed as time passes. We all have specific needs and different areas of our lives that we need coaching and support in and coaches build their experience and expertise in these areas to better support you.
What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?
The terms “coaching” and “mentoring” are often times used interchangeably, especially in the workplace. However the difference between them is actually quite vast. Simply put, Coaching doesn’t require the coach to have prior experience in the areas that you need help with as they will utilize various coaching techniques in order to empower and help you to achieve your own personal/professional goals. While mentoring is usually done by someone that is perceived as a senior with experience in the challenge area you’re facing. The mentor will tell you about their experiences and what they’d do and use an approach that helps direct you down a path rather than allowing you to arrive at your own solutions.
What is the difference between coaching and counselling?
In the world of coaching the aim is to help an individual to achieve their own personal goals, this is done by understanding where the person is in their life right now and where they wish to be. However in counselling the focus is based more heavily around what the individual’s past experiences were like with the aim of bringing them back to a state of normalcy.
How can coaching help me?
  • Informal coaching happens everyday in our lives, we turn to friends, family members and colleagues for support and guidance on various aspects of our day to day lives. Formal coaching seeks to take this a step further by not merely providing emotional support or a listening ear, but to help you achieve your goals and aspirations that you’ve been struggling to make a reality. There are many different areas of coaching and each will ultimately have a different expected outcome, for example:
  • Life coaching - an individual that has sought out a life coach may have goals which are more personal like quitting smoking or becoming more physically fit
Business Coaching - an individual that has sought out a business coach may have a goal to start their own business or to improve and grow their current business
  • Career Coaching - an individual who has sought out a career coach may be looking to take that next step in their career and are unsure on what they need to do to achieve this
  • Ultimately your goal will determine the area of coaching that would be right for you
